Bye Bye Broadway: A Pictorial History of Bradford City Centre
In association with the Bradford Telegraph & Argus
Bradford is in the throes of major changes. The city centre is being completely redesigned to create a bright new retail and leisure heart and the key area around Broadway is being flattened to make way for it.
More and more people are choosing to make the heart of Bradford their home, and long-disused mill buildings are being revitalised to create modern, hi-tech apartments. As the old buildings are demolished or refurbished, we can reflect on the recent history of central Bradford and commemorate the city's heritage.
Bye Bye Broadway is a unique pictorial history of the evolution of Bradford city centre from industrial powerhouse to a 21st century place in which to work, live and be entertained. Delving into the files of Bradford's famous newspaper, the Telegraph & Argus, this volume brings together some rarely-seen photographs of how Bradford looked in the past and the people that populated it.
As the cityscape undergoes dramatic regeneration, it is important to record for posterity the way we were. Change is inevitable and the plans for Bradford are exciting and filled with possibilities.
In Bye Bye Broadway, we embrace the future while saluting the past.
