Wiltshire:
Life & Times
In association with the Wiltshire
Times
The towns and villages of Wiltshire have undergone
great change over the last 150 years, with developments
taking place that have altered every aspect of daily
life: work, school, shopping, transport and communications,
architecture and home life.
To celebrate its 150th anniversary, the Wiltshire
Times has opened its archive of pictures representing
more than a century of life in the county to put together
the fascinating pictorial record that is Wiltshire:
Life & Times. The people, events and landmarks
of today and yesterday are brought together in a volume
that will appeal to anyone with an interest in the
way that the local area has developed over the years.
Here are the stories that made headlines in years
gone by, from the serious to the bizarre. Elections,
fires and floods, celebrity visits, buildings old
and new – this collection of more than 400 photographs
will have something for everyone. Even the role played
by the Wiltshire Times in the life of the county is
illustrated, with photographs that show how the paper
itself has developed, from the early days of ‘hot
metal’ printing to the digital era.
This delightful book is packed with carefully chosen
pictures that reflect the richness of life in Wiltshire
and document the social history of its people.
