Valleys
of Death:
The gripping stories of ten brutal
killings in the Wharfe and Aire valleys between 1905
and 1966
Paul Langan
An account of ten violent deaths – eight murders
and two manslaughters – which took place in
the Wharfe and Aire valleys in West Yorkshire. Some
were particularly shocking, like the unsolved sex
murder of a young woman in Ilkley, the stabbing of
his three children by a policeman in Otley, and the
killing of Elizabeth Todd, decapitated in broad daylight.
The author’s meticulous research, including
interviews with local people, has produced a fascinating
book about the darker side of the West Riding.
