Gordon Davies
Memory Lane Crewe is the result of many
hundreds of hours work, trawling through the archives
by former Crewe Chronicle staff photographer Gordon
Davies. A native of Crewe, with an almost encyclopedic
knowledge of the town’s history, both ancient
and recent, Gordon has amassed some 500 images of
the Crewe area, covering people and places, wartime,schools,
clubs,pubs,shops and the railway and other industry.
There are the streets of Crewe as they looked 30,40
50 years ago and more. Faces stare out from the past:
schoolchildren, many now middle-aged; and teenagers,
now drawing their pension in this new century.
The result is a book which will delight Crewe people
of all ages as they see places and people they remember
from the past. Memory Lane Crewe will inform
and entertain. Most of all it will bring back memories
of days gone by.
